RADIO

Radio was a great achievement in the terms of communication between people. Radio was not a direct or immediate invention.

One can call radio as one of the effects of the telephone and telegraph inventions. The inventors of telephone and telegraph had already introduced the technology of wire-to-wire communication.

Thus, the inventor of radio based his invention on the technology of telephone and telegraph. This invention did not happen all of the sudden. The discovery of radio waves actually set the platform for the invention of radio. Radio waves are electromagnetic waves that can carry information in the form of pictures, sound and other details.

Various people contributed towards the invention of the radio. In the 1800s, a physicist from Scotland had predicted radio waves. Then, after this, another physicist from Germany actually proved the existence of radio waves. He showed that radio waves are same as light or heat waves. Then, the invention of telegraphy with wireless technology took place.Nicola Tesla a Serbian Scientist made the basic design of the radio in the year 1892. He also designed a Radio Controlled Robotic Boat.

Sir Oliver Lodge brought considerable improvement in the design of a coherer that was a primitive form of a radio signal detector. He is the first person to transmit a radio signal successfully. The invention of radio is definitely a great milestone in the history of America. This invention enabled us to listen to the news on a very broad basis. The way the news was conveyed on the radio was completely different from that printed in the daily newspaper. Very few of us know how these radio signals actually travel.

In fact, in the present world most of us would definitely know how a computer works but are completely unaware about how the radio functions. The invention of Radio was a huge step in the field of technology. Since the time it was invented most of us have forgotten how useful a radio can prove to be even in the present world where computers and laptops have taken over everything. However, some of them still find radio to be the best part of their lives. Those in their 80s and 90s love to talk about it mainly to their grandchildren. The sound that you usually hear coming out of your radio speakers is mainly due to the transmission of radio signals. This is due to the process known as modulation.

The modulations of Electromagnetic waves transmit the signals at a low frequency. The oscillating electromagnetic fields emit electromagnetic radiation. These radiated waves go through a process of modulation in regards to the frequency, amplitude and pulse width. The waves then transform into sound that is responsible for carrying information.

The invention of radio made it easy for a common person to hear the world news. Radio was the most widely used device, even though telegraph and telephone were invented during the same period.

The invention of Audion, the first radio tube responsible for improving the clarity brought about a complete new generation of radio. This was a time when people could enjoy their favorite music on the radio.
